Your questions, answered
What does a ghostwriter do?
A ghostwriter develops text from an agreed brief and source material. The project can involve interviews, planning, drafting, and revisions. Authorship credit and rights should be addressed in the agreement.
Do I need an outline?
No. Planning can be part of the scope. If you already have an outline, it becomes part of the initial review.
Can I hire you only for editing?
Yes, subject to agreeing the editing level and manuscript scope. Other services need not be bundled into it.
Who will work on my manuscript?
Ask for the proposed roles, relevant experience, communication arrangement, and review process before committing. Assignment should reflect project fit and availability.
How long does a project take?
Length, complexity, interviews, source readiness, revisions, and author feedback affect the schedule. Retailer processing can add time to publishing projects.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the agreed work. Request an itemized proposal that distinguishes service fees from other costs.
Are revisions unlimited?
Revision rounds and their scope should be defined in the agreement. A correction within the brief is different from requesting a new direction or additional chapters.
Who owns the manuscript?
Rights in your existing material and newly commissioned work must be specified in the contract, including any payment conditions and third-party licenses. Do not rely on a short marketing sentence instead of those terms.
Will my project be confidential?
The agreement and privacy notice should explain access, permitted service-provider use, and publication permissions. Ask about sensitive material before sharing it.
Do you use AI?
Ask for the project's tool-use policy before commissioning. Any approved use of generative tools should be described accurately, including relevant platform disclosure obligations. A project should not be marketed as human-only unless that is true.
Are you a traditional publisher?
The proposed service model is paid author support, including self-publishing assistance. It does not imply a traditional acquisition, advance, or representation.
Are you affiliated with Amazon?
Publishing Legends is an independent provider. Platform references do not establish endorsement, certification, or a partnership.
Will my book be a bestseller?
No provider can responsibly guarantee that outcome. Sales depend on the book, audience, pricing, promotion, competition, and many other factors.
Will stores stock my book?
A distribution listing does not mean a store will buy copies or put them on shelves.
Do I receive the full retail price?
No. Applicable retailer, distributor, printing, and other charges affect earnings. Any provider fees or commissions must also be disclosed.
Is an ISBN included?
Only if stated. Ask about the issuing route, imprint details, formats, costs, and any restrictions before deciding.
Can you show relevant work?
Ask for authorized examples and the exact service provided. Confidential projects may limit public examples; clearly labeled demonstrations can help illustrate the process.
What if I want to cancel?
Read the cancellation terms before paying. They should explain completed work, unstarted stages, approved external costs, and how a request is assessed.
What happens after delivery?
The agreement identifies final files, account arrangements where relevant, and the period and scope of any included support.
